During his undergraduate training, he balanced his passion for the sciences and the humanities, majoring in both Biology and Philosophy. While at Binghamton University, Dr. Miller earned the prestigious honor of becoming the Howard Hughes Teaching Scholar, where he developed and then taught a laboratory course in biology.
His medical training began in New York City at the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center where he completed medical school and residency. His passion for Orthopaedics began early in medical school when he spent much of his free time observing orthopaedic procedures, assisting the orthopaedists in the emergency room and conducting orthopaedic research. For his dedication and passion, Dr. Miller was awarded the Dr. Christopher Pavlides Scholarship for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery. He also received the Downstate College of Medicine Alumni Research Scholarship.
Dr. Miller’s Orthopaedic residency gave him a broad, in depth exposure to trauma, as he covered three of New York City’s busiest trauma centers. He quickly focused on trauma as his area of interest, finding the complex and unique characteristics of each fracture uniquely challenging and ultimately rewarding. He also found great satisfaction in assisting people in a time of great need and facilitating their often dramatic recovery.
The Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at the University of California - Davis in Sacramento is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country. It was a great honor to be selected as one of only two doctors to study under their nationally renowned surgeons, educators and researchers; Dr. Philip Wolinsky, Dr. Mark Lee and Dr. Tania Ferguson. At one of the busiest trauma centers on the west coast, Dr. Miller got extensive experience in the polytraumatic patient, fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum, complex periarticular fractures, minimally invasive fracture care, and the correction of complications from these injuries.
Dr. Miller was also selected as AO Fellow at the internationally renowned Hannover Medical Center in Germany, where he continued his study in Orthopaedic Trauma, focusing on computer assisted surgery.
